Empanadas de Honoro, also known as Beef Turnovers, are a traditional Argentine recipe. This dish is essentially made of a flour dough filled with deliciously marinated beef, olives, and raisins, with an egg thrown in for good measure. The dough is then sealed and baked to perfection until it's crispy golden brown.

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375°F.
2.Cut the beef into small cubes and marinate them with lemon juice, lime juice, oregano, and chili powder.
3.In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, egg, egg yolk and milk to form a dough.
4.Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a thickness of ¼ inch.
5.Cut the rolled-out dough into rounds.

PROS

Empanadas de Honoro are an absolutely delicious food that is perfect for a lunchtime snack or as an appetizer.

They are relatively easy to prepare and you can add or subtract spices to suit your tastes.

CONS

Although Empanadas are meant to be a relatively healthy option over fried food, they do contain quite a bit of shortening which is high in fat content.

It’s important to consume them in moderation and as part of a balanced diet.

HEALTH & BENEFITS

Empanadas are a great source of protein due to the beef content.
Additionally, they provide an excellent source of carbohydrates with the flour dough and raisins. The black olives are a great source of antioxidants.
