Ingredients

1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 can crushed tomatoes
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar

3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese , divided
1/2 pound bulk Italian sausage
1 package sliced pepperoni
1 package sliced fresh mushrooms
1/2 green bell pepper , chopped
1/2 red bell pepper , chopped
Double crust pizza is another creation variation of traditional pizza. This version includes a layer of dough on top of the toppings, which acts as a top crust. Double crust pizza can be made with a variety of toppings and is perfect for pizza lovers that wanna switch things up. In this stuffed recipe, the layers are stacked between two layers of pizza dough, providing additional texture and flavor. The pizza comes together with a tomato-based sauce, mozzarella cheese, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, and peppers. It's baked to perfection with a crispy top crust, leaving you with a mouth-watering taste.

Instructions

1.In a large bowl, combine sugar, warm water, and yeast, and stir well to dissolve. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.
2.Stir in olive oil and salt to the yeast mixture.
3.Gradually add flour to make a dough, knead the dough for 5 minutes until smooth.
4.Coat a large bowl with cooking spray and transfer dough to the bowl. Cover it and let it sit in a warm place for 30 minutes.
5.Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) while the dough is resting.
6.In a small saucepan, mix crushed tomato, brown sugar, garlic powder, olive oil, and salt over medium-low heat. Let the sauce simmer for 15 minutes.
7.Cook sausage in a skillet over medium heat until brown for about 10-15 minutes. Drain the excess oil and fat.
8.Roll out 2/3 of the pizza dough on a floured surface and transfer to a greased 9-inch pie dish.
9.Layer 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella, followed by sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, green and red pepper onto the crust. Pour 1/2 cup of sauce over the entire layer.
10.Roll out the remaining 1/3 of the pizza dough, place on top of the pizza. Pinch the edges of both crusts together and trim any excess dough.
11.Cut a small slit on top of the pizza. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the crust turn golden brown.
