Ingredients

1 cup raisins
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
12 tablespoons cold butter
1 large egg
1/2 cup honey
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup chopped walnuts
This delicious Irish Soda Bread gets its rise from baking soda and buttermilk. The buttermilk reacts with the baking soda to create carbon dioxide, which makes the bread rise without the need for yeast. This bread is hearty, dense, and slightly sweet, thanks to the addition of raisins and honey. Best enjoyed warm, this bread is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack alongside a hot cup of tea or coffee. The crunchy crust is perfect for slathering on some butter, and the soft inside is the perfect canvas for your favorite jams or spreads.
