Deutsche Donuts, also known as German Doughnuts or Berliner Pfannkuchen, are a traditional German pastry. They are a variation of the classic doughnut, but with a slightly different shape and a sweet raisin filling. These doughnuts are usually served to celebrate special occasions such as Carnival or Mardi Gras, but they can be enjoyed any time of the year. The sweet, chewy raisins and the soft, fluffy dough make Deutsche Donuts a delicious treat that everyone will enjoy.

Instructions

.In a small bowl, dissolve the dry active yeast in the slightly warm water and set aside.
.In a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat, heat 1 cup of the milk until it is scalded but not boiling. Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes.
.Add 2 cups of flour to the scalded milk and mix until smooth. Add the dissolved yeast mixture, butter, sugar, eggs, salt, raisins, and remaining 1 cup of milk, and mix well.
.Gradually add the remaining 3 cups of flour, mixing well after each addition. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
.Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
.Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a thickness of about 1/4 inch. Cut the dough with a doughnut cutter or into circles using a biscuit cutter and cut out the middle using a smaller cutter. Let the doughnuts rest and rise for 15-20 minutes.
.Preheat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large Dutch oven to 375°F. Fry the doughnuts, a few at a time, until golden brown, turning them once. Drain the doughnuts on paper towels.
.Dust the doughnuts with powdered sugar before serving.
