Ingredients

3 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1/4 cup skim milk , scalded and cooled
3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
12 ounces cold unsalted butter
2 large eggs , room temperature
16 ounces reduced-fat cream cheese , softened
6 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 large egg yolks , room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons fresh orange zest
1/2 cup orange marmalade ( or other fruit of your choice ) or 1/2 cup chocolate chips ( about 10-15 chips per danish )
1 egg
1 pinch salt
1/2 - 1 cup sliced almonds
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar ( sifted after measuring )
2 tablespoons skim milk ( I prefer milk because it makes a creamier icing ) or 2 tablespoons water ( I prefer milk because it makes a creamier icing )
1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract
These Danish Orange Marmalade Cheese Pockets are a perfect treat for those who love pastries and cheesecake. They are warm, flaky, and filled with creamy cheesecake filling, paired with sweet orange marmalade. These treats can make an excellent addition to any breakfast or dessert menu.

Instructions

1.In a small bowl, mix together yeast and warm water. Set aside for 5 minutes.
2.In another bowl, add cooled scalded milk to the yeast mixture and stir well.
3.In a separate bowl, mix together flour, sugar and salt. Cut in butter and stir until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the yeast and milk mixture to this flour mixture and stir until dough forms.
4.Refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour.
5.While the dough is chilling, prepare the filling by whisking together cream cheese, sugar, egg yolks, vanilla extract, and orange zest.
6.Preheat oven to 375°F.
7.Roll out chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into 4 inch squares and score a border 1/2 inch from the edge of each square.
8.Spread filling evenly over each square, leaving the 1/2 inch border untouched. Add the orange marmalade or chocolate chips over the filling.
9.Beat egg and salt together in a small bowl. Brush egg mixture over the border of each square. Sprinkle sliced almonds over the filling.
10.Bake for 20-25 minutes or until pastry is golden brown.
11.While pastries are baking, prepare the icing by whisking together powdered sugar, skim milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
12.Drizzle icing over pastries and enjoy!
