Ingredients

1 medium red cabbage ( about 2 pounds )
4 tablespoons butter , cut in small pieces
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup vinegar
1/4 cup red currant jelly
2 tablespoons grated apples
Danish Braised Cabbage is a traditional side dish that is beloved for its sweet and sour flavor profile. Instructions

1.Cut the cabbage into quarters and remove the core. Slice thinly
2.In a large casserole dish, sprinkle a third of the sliced cabbage on the bottom. Add a few pieces of butter and sprinkle with sugar and salt. Repeat this layering process with the remaining cabbage, butter, sugar and salt.
3.In a bowl, mix together the water, vinegar, and red currant jelly. Pour this mixture over the cabbage. Top with grated apples.
4.Cover and cook in the oven at 350°F for 2 hours.
5.Stir occasionally during cooking and add more water if necessary to keep the cabbage moist.
