2 1/2 cups flour

1 cup shortening
1 egg yolk , combined with milk to make 2/3 cup ( save egg white )
1 cup corn flakes
6 cut-up apples
1 cup sugar
3 teaspoons flour
1 cup icing sugar
1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
water

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 375F.
2.In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
3.Add egg yolk and milk mixture, mixing until the dough comes together.
4.Roll out half of the dough and place it in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle corn flakes over the dough.
5.Layer the sliced apples over the corn flakes.
6.In a small bowl, mix sugar and flour together. Sprinkle mixture over the apples.
7.Roll out the remaining dough and place it over the top of the apples, pressing the edges together to seal.
8.Brush the top of the dough with the reserved egg white.
9.Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
10.While the squares are baking, mix together icing sugar, almond flavoring, and enough water to create an icing. Once the squares have cooled, drizzle the icing over the top.
