Ingredients

125 g butter , softened
165 g muscovado sugar
2 eggs
100 g ground almonds
80 g self-raising flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
125 ml milk
125 g california prunes , chopped
50 g walnuts , chopped
2 tablespoons caster sugar
2 dessert apples
25 g butter , chilled and cut into cubes
1 teaspoon cinnamon
This Danish Apple and Prune Cake is a wonderfully cozy and comforting dessert perfect for chilly autumn days. The combination of tart apples, sweet California prunes, and crunchy walnuts makes for a deliciously complex flavor. Instructions

1.Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan)/350°F/gas mark 4.
2.Grease and line the base of a 20cm / 8in round cake tin.
3.Beat the butter and 145g of the muscovado sugar together until light and creamy.
4.Beat in the eggs.
5.Fold in the ground almonds, self-raising flour and baking powder using a metal spoon.
6.Stir in the milk, then the chopped california prunes and chopped walnuts.
7.Spoon the cake mixture into the prepared tin.
8.Peel, core and slice the apples and arrange them on top of the cake mixture.
9.Rub together the remaining muscovado sugar, chilled butter and cinnamon until the mixture resembles crumbs. Scatter over the top of the apple slices.
10.Bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour, until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean.
11.Leave to cool in the tin for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
