1 cup whole milk
3/8 cup softened butter
1/4 ounce dry yeast
1 egg
1/2 cup superfine sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 cups wheat flour

1 teaspoon vanilla extract or 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
2 tablespoons unbleached all-purpose flour
1/2 cup confectioners ' sugar
3 teaspoons fresh orange juice or 3 teaspoons lemon juice
1 dash water , to desired consistency
Dallaspulla is a traditional Finnish pastry known for its different shape and unique taste. Made with milk, egg, and wheat flour, the dough is combined with cream cheese, sugar, butter, and vanilla extract, giving the pastry its flavour and thickness. The name roughly translates to “Dallas Roll” as the pastry's creator is thought to have come from Dallas, Texas, in the USA. Dallaspulla is best enjoyed cool and is often a part of a full breakfast or served in coffee shops with hot beverages like coffee or hot chocolate.

Instructions

1.Heat the milk slightly and pour it into a mixing bowl, stir in yeast and then sugar until all is dissolved.
2.Whisk in egg with softened butter and salt.
3.Beat in flour gradually, until the dough becomes thick and kneadable.
4.Place the dough ball in a sizeable bowl and cover with cling film and let it rise.
5.Melt butter in a small saucepan, then add sugar and heat further until the sugar dissolves; remove from heat.
6.Add in Quark, vanilla-flavoured cream, cream cheese, egg, and zest in your mixing container and whisk.
7.Whisk in flour until the mixture becomes uniform, and then mix in the confectioners’ sugar.
8.Preheat the oven to 450°F and divide the dough into two pieces. Roll the dough out to roughly 15cm * 50cm and spread the cheese mixture thinly on top.
9.Roll up the dough tautly to form the pastry and cut into rolls at intervals of around 2cm.
10.Brush the rolls with the egg before putting them in the oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
