Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds ground beef
7 carrots , coarsely chopped
1 small white onion , chopped
4 slices ham
1/2 cup butter
1 can beef broth
1 can tomato paste
1 lemon , zested
2 bay leaves
1 pinch dried basil
1 1/2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon heavy cream

Instructions

1.In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat until no longer pink.
2.Add the chopped carrots and onion to the pot with the beef.
3.Tear the ham into small pieces and add it to the pot.
4.Add butter, beef broth, tomato paste, lemon zest, bay leaves, basil, and nutmeg to the pot and stir well.
5.Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
6.Remove the bay leaves and add the heavy cream to the pot.
7.Stir well and serve the sauce hot over your favorite pasta!
