Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs cod
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup chickpea flour
4 fresh chili peppers , seeded and finely chopped
1 onion , finely chopped
2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
vegetable oil , for shallow frying

1/2 cup ghee or 2 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 large onion , thinly sliced
2 garlic cloves , thinly sliced
1 cinnamon stick
2 bay leaves
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons ground coriander
1 1/2 teaspoons turmeric
1 teaspoon chili powder
5 ounces tomato paste
2 1/2 cups fish stock
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup desiccated coconut
seeds , of 10 cardamons ground
2 teaspoons fenugreek seeds , ground
salt and pepper

Instructions

1.Cut the cod into small pieces and place them in a food processor. Blend until smooth.
2.Add the lemon juice, egg, salt, chickpea flour, chili peppers, onion, breadcrumbs, and pepper to the fish puree and mix well.
3.Form the mixture into small balls and set them aside.
4.In a frying pan, heat the oil over medium heat.
5.Add the fish balls to the pan and cook until golden brown.
6.In a separate pan, heat the ghee or vegetable oil over medium heat.
7.Add the sliced onion and garlic to the pan and cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
8.Add the cinnamon stick, bay leaves, cumin, coriander, turmeric, chili powder, and tomato paste to the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
9.Add the fish stock, lemon juice, desiccated coconut, cardamom seeds, and fenugreek seeds to the pan. Stir well and bring to a boil.
10.Reduce the heat and simmer the sauce for 5-10 minutes, until it has thickened slightly.
11.Add the fish balls to the pan with the sauce and cook for a further 5-10 minutes, until the fish balls are cooked through.
