2 ounces raisins
2 2 ounces dried pear halves or 2 ounces dried apples ( or combination )
1/4 cup honey
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup butter , room temperature
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon grated lemon , rind of
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
4 large oranges
12 cups water
1 3/4 cups water
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup honey
Cucidati, also known as Sicilian fig cookies, are traditional Italian cookies that are mainly prepared during the holiday season. These cookies, filled with a flavorful mixture of dried figs, raisins, chocolate, and spices, are a staple in many Sicilian families. The word “Cucidati” derives from the Sicilian word “cucci’datu” which means “little package”. Indeed, these cookie rolls resemble little packages with their filling oozing out after taking a bite. Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2.In a small bowl, pour 2 cups of boiling water over figs and raisins. Let it rest for 5 minutes and then drain the water.
3.In another bowl, chop dried pears or apples, whichever you're using, and add chocolate along with drained figs and raisins. Mix thoroughly.
4.In a separate large bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
5.Add egg and lemon zest and whisk it until well combined.
6.Separately mix all-purpose flour, baking powder, ground allspice, and cinnamon, and then add them to the wet ingredients. Stir until the dough is formed.
7.Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
8.Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface.
9.Divide the dough into 2 equal portions. Roll each dough on a lightly floured surface, into an 8x12-inch rectangle.
10.Divide the fruit and chocolate mixture in two portions. Spread it over each dough rectangle, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edges.
11.Roll the dough into a log and pinch to close the ends.
12.Cut each log into half and quarter. Then, cut each quarter in half.
13.Place the rolls on the baking sheet and bake them for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
