1. | Mix together oatmeal and salt in a large bowl |
2. | Heat the milk in a pan until just before boiling |
3. | Pour the hot milk over the oatmeal mixture and stir well |
4. | Grease a large pudding basin with butter or oil |
5. | Pour the mixture into the greased pudding basin |
6. | Cover the pudding basin with a lid or some foil |
7. | Bring a large pot of water to boil |
8. | Place the pudding basin in the pot, making sure the water comes halfway up the side of the basin |
9. | Cover the pot with a lid and steam for 2-3 hours |
10. | Serve hot with cream or jam |
