Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs ground sirloin
1 teaspoon soy sauce
2 beef bouillon cubes or 2 teaspoons powdered beef bouillon
salt and pepper , to taste
12 fluid ounces water
1 pinch nutmeg
2 tablespoons plain flour
2 fluid ounces water , additional
2 cups plain flour
2/3 cup water
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 ounces meat drippings
1 package puff pastry
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon water
Cowherd's Pie, also known as Shepherd's Pie, is a popular dish in many parts of the world. Instructions

1.In a large skillet, brown the ground sirloin and drain any excess fat.
2.Add the soy sauce, beef bouillon, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
3.Add water and nutmeg. Bring to a boil and reduce heat. Simmer for 30 minutes.
4.In a small bowl, mix the flour and additional water. Stir into the meat mixture and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
5.Preheat oven to 375°F.
6.In a medium sized bowl, mix the flour, salt, and meat drippings. Slowly add water, mixing until a soft dough is formed.
7.Roll out the pastry dough and line the bottom of a pie dish.
8.Add the meat mixture to the pie dish. Cover with remaining pastry.
9.Pinch the edges of the pastry dough together and cut several slits in the top.
10.In a small bowl, beat together the egg yolk and water. Brush the top of the pastry with the egg wash.
11.Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.
