Ingredients

1 betty crocker sugar cookie mix
1/2 cup butter , softened
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1 egg
1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup butter , softened
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon salt
8 frozen miniature phyllo cups ( from 2.1-oz package )
1/3 cup honey
2 tablespoons butter , softened
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
5 tablespoons honey
Baklava is a traditional dessert that originated in the Ottoman Empire and is now enjoyed throughout the Middle East and Eastern Europe. It is made with layers of phyllo dough, chopped nuts, and a sweet syrup. In this recipe, we give baklava a fun twist by incorporating a sugar cookie mix and turning it into bars. The combination of the sweet cookie base, nutty filling, and honey drizzle make for a delectable dessert that is perfect for any occasion.

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Spray 13x9-inch (3-quart) baking dish with cooking spray.
2.In large bowl, stir cookie mix, 1/2 cup butter, lemon peel and egg until soft dough forms. Press evenly in bottom of baking dish.
3.In medium bowl, mix walnuts, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup butter, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and the salt. Sprinkle over dough. Top with frozen phyllo cups.
4.In small microwavable bowl, microwave 1/3 cup honey, 2 tablespoons butter, the brown sugar, lemon juice and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon uncovered on High 1 to 2 minutes or until mixture boils and sugar dissolves. Stir in vanilla. Drizzle over top.
5.Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely, about 2 hours. Drizzle with remaining 5 tablespoons honey. For bars, cut into 6 rows by 4 rows.
