Ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted butter
3/4 cup sugar or 3/4 cup turbinado sugar
1/2 cup unbleached flour
1 1/4 cups semolina
1 1/2 cups coconut , shredded
3/4 cup milk or 3/4 cup almond milk
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon almond extract
handful whole almond , to decorate
1/2 cup sugar
2/3 cup water
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/3 teaspoon rose water ( optional )
Coconut Halva (Basbousa) is a traditional Middle Eastern dessert that is also popular in other parts of the world like Greece and Turkey. This dessert contains a mix of flour, semolina, coconut, and sugar, which are combined to create a soft, spongy texture with a rich, nutty flavor. The dessert is often accompanied by tea or coffee on special occasions or served as a post-meal dessert at the end of a hearty meal. Instructions

1.Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2.In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until creamy and smooth.
3.Add the flour, semolina, coconut, almond extract, milk, and baking powder to the bowl.
4.Mix them well until they become a smooth batter.
5.Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with butter.
6.Pour the batter into the pan and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
7.Cut the halva into diamond shapes and place a whole almond in the center of each diamond.
8.Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until golden brown.
9.Meanwhile, make the syrup by combining water, sugar, lemon juice, and rose water (optional) in a saucepan.
10.Cook the mixture until the sugar dissolves.
11.Bring it to boil, then let it simmer over low heat for about 8-10 minutes until the syrup thickens.
12.Once the halva is baked, take it out of the oven and pour the hot syrup over the halva.
13.Let it cool down completely before serving.
