4 teaspoons butter , divided

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375°F.

8.Slice the ciabatta into 4 portions of about 1 1/2-inches thickness each.
9.Cut a pocket into the middle of each portion, leaving at least a half inch wall on each side.
10.Fill each pocket with slices of Gruyere cheese and set aside.
11.In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, buttermilk, salt, nutmeg, black pepper, egg, and egg white until well combined.
12.Dip each stuffed-ciabatta portion into the milk mixture and let it stand for 5 seconds to absorb the contents.
13.Heat a grill pan over medium heat and melt 2 teaspoons of butter.
14.Put the stuffed-ciabatta portions on the grill pan, cooking for 3-4 minutes on each side or until browned.
15.In a small saucepan, melt the remaining 2 teaspoons of butter over medium heat.
16.Add the pecans and toast for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently.
17.Serve the Ciabatta French Toast hot with warm apple maple syrup and toasted pecans on top.
