Ingredients

8 ounces butter
8 ounces soft dark brown sugar

4 -5 fluid ounces Guinness stout
4 ounces butter , softened
8 ounces confectioners ' sugar
1 orange , juice and grated rind

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas mark 4. Grease a cake tin with butter and set aside.
2.In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
3.Sift in the self-raising flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa powder. Mix to combine.
4.Add in the grated orange rind and mix. Beat in the eggs one by one.
5.Slowly pour in the Guinness, mixing until smooth.
6.Pour the mixture into the prepared cake tin and place it into the oven.
7.Bake for 50-60 minutes until risen and a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
8.While the cake cools make the buttercream; beat together the softened butter and confectioners’ sugar until light and creamy. Add the grated orange rind and juice to the mix and beat until combined.
9.Once the cake is cool, spread the buttercream over the cake and enjoy!
