Ingredients

2 envelopes unflavored gelatin ( 7 g each )
2 1/2 cups milk
1/3 cup white sugar
1/2 cup cocoa , sifted
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 large egg yolks
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 large egg whites , room temperature
1/3 cup white sugar
2 cups whipped topping ( see note ) or 2 cups whipped cream , stabilized ( see note )

Instructions

1.In a large saucepan, add 1 1/2 cups of milk and sprinkle gelatin powder over it. Set it aside for 5 minutes.
2.Add cocoa, sugar, salt and egg yolks to the saucepan and whisk until well combined.
3.Cook the mixture over medium-low heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
4.Add 2 tbs milk and vanilla, stir well.
5.Remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool completely.
6.Beat egg whites until stiff, gradually adding 1/3 cup sugar.
7.Fold in whipped topping or whipped cream into the cooled cocoa mixture and mix well.
8.Gently fold in the beaten egg whites and mix until evenly combined.
9.Line the bottom and sides of a 9-inch springform pan with ladyfingers.
10.Pour the mixture over the ladyfingers and smooth the top surface.
11.Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight.
12.Release the springform and gently remove the sides of the pan. Slice and serve chilled.
