Ingredients

2 tablespoons oil
1/2 cup onion , minced
1 teaspoon garlic , minced
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup catsup
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
2 2 tablespoons water or 2 tablespoons wine
Chinese Sweet and Sour Pungent Barbque Sauce is a popular dipping sauce in Chinese cuisine. This sauce is commonly used as a marinade for meats before they are barbecued or grilled to give them an almost caramelised sweet tangy flavour. The sauce is also versatile in that it can be used with a variety of meats such as chicken, pork, and fish.

Instructions

1.In a pan, heat the oil on medium heat.
2.Add the minced onion and garlic and fry until translucent.
3.Add honey, catsup, red wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, pepper, and ginger, and stir continually for about 5 minutes.
4.In a separate bowl, combine cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water (or wine). Stir it well until the cornstarch is dissolved.
5.Add the cornstarch mixture to the saucepan and reduce heat to low. Stir it continuously until it turns thick.
6.Turn off the heat and let it cool.
7.Serve the sauce with grilled chicken, pork, or fish.
