Ingredients

1/2 cup chicken broth
1 teaspoon sesame oil
3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
3 tablespoons oyster sauce
Chinese Red-cooked Eggs, also known as tea eggs, are a popular dish in China and other parts of Asia. The eggs are boiled until hard and then simmered in a flavorful sauce made with soy sauce, sugar, and various Chinese spices. The result is a savory and flavorful egg that is perfect for breakfast, a side dish, or as an appetizer. The eggs get their unique marbled appearance from the tea leaves or spices they are boiled with before being simmered in the sauce. Chinese Red-cooked Eggs are a delicious and easy way to add more protein to your diet.

Instructions

1.In a large pot, add the 6 eggs and enough water to cover them. Bring to a boil over high heat, then immediately turn off the heat and cover the pot with a lid. Let sit for 10-12 minutes.
2.In a separate pot, mix the brown sugar, dark soy sauce, chicken broth, sesame oil, hoisin sauce, and oyster sauce together. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
3.Once the eggs are done, peel them and add them to the pot with the sauce. Turn the heat to low and let the eggs simmer in the sauce for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4.Once finished, remove the pot from heat and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before serving the eggs whole or sliced as a side dish or appetizer.
