Ingredients

Meatballs :
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 yellow onion , finely chopped
1 1/2 teaspoons fine salt
1/4 cup milk
2 large eggs
1/3 cup plain bread crumbs
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1 pinch cayenne pepper , or to taste
1 pound ground beef chuck
1 pound ground pork
Gravy :
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 1/4 cups beef broth
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 teaspoon white sugar
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

1.Melt 2 tbsp of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
2.Add the finely chopped onion, season with 1 1/2 tsp of salt, and cook until golden brown in color.
3.In a mixing bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of milk and 2 large eggs. Add 1/3 cup of plain bread crumbs, 3/4 tsp of freshly ground black pepper, 1/4 tsp of ground nutmeg, 1/4 tsp of ground allspice, and 1 pinch of cayenne pepper. Mix well and add 1 pound of ground beef chuck and 1 pound of ground pork, mixing until just combined.
4.Shape into 2-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet. Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
5.Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) and coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.
6.Bake the meatballs until browned and cooked through, about 20 minutes.
7.While the meatballs bake, make the gravy. Melt 2 tbsp of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Sprinkle 3 tbsp of all-purpose flour over the butter and whisk until smooth. Cook, whisking constantly, until the mixture is a deep golden brown in color.
8.Slowly whisk in 3 1/4 cups of beef broth, 1/2 cup of heavy cream, 1/2 tsp of white sugar, and 1/4 tsp of Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens, about 10 minutes.
9.Serve the baked meatballs with the hot gravy.
