Ingredients

1 cup long grain white basmati rice
2 medium sized onions , peeled , washed and sliced lengthwise
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
2 cloves
2 green cardamoms
1 inch cinnamon stick
2 -3 bay leaves
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon cumin seed
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups water
4 -6 whole black peppercorns ( optional )
Charishma's Brown Rice Pulao is a delicious and healthy variation of the classic Indian rice dish. Made from nutritious brown rice, this pulao is packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Instructions

1.Rinse the basmati rice in cold water at least twice, and then soak it in water for 30 minutes.
2.In a large pot, heat the olive oil and add the cumin seeds.
3.When the seeds start to sizzle, add the sliced onions and sauté until lightly browned.
4.Add the red chili powder, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon stick, and bay leaves, and stir for a few seconds.
5.Add the soaked rice and salt, and mix well.
6.Add 2 1/2 cups of water and bring the mixture to a boil.
7.Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the rice cook for 20-25 minutes until tender.
8.Turn off the heat, and let the pulao rest for 5-10 minutes before fluffing with a fork and serving with subru.
