Ingredients

4 pork cutlets
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
1 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder
2 teaspoons garlic ( minced or through the garlic press or crushed )
2 teaspoons ginger ( grated )
1/4 cup rice wine ( Shoaxing , dry sherry can be substituted )
1/2 Chinese cabbage ( finely shredded )
1 cup bean sprouts
1/2 cup spring onion ( scallions or green onions sliced )
2 tablespoons light soy sauce
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons sesame oil ( dark recommended )
Char Siu Pork Cutlets are an easy-to-make Chinese-style pork dish that’s perfect for big and busy families. The pork is marinated in a sweet and savory mixture of honey, soy sauce, five spice powder, garlic and ginger, and roasted in the oven until tender and juicy. The dish goes perfectly with Chinese coleslaw, which a light, healthy and refreshing salad made with Chinese cabbage, bean sprouts, and spring onions, and dressed in a flavorful mixture of light soy sauce, lemon juice, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. This is a perfect combination of sweet and savory flavors, making it an excellent meal for a summer evening dinner party.

Instructions

1.Preheat your oven to 190°C.
2.In a bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, five spice powder, garlic and ginger to make a marinade.
3.Score the pork on one side and place the pork cutlets in the bowl.
4.Massage the marinade into the pork and refrigerate them for 30 minutes.
5.Line a baking tray with baking paper or foil. Put the pork on the tray, skin-side up, and then drizzle ¼ cup of rice wine over it.
6.Roast the pork for 20-25 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 63°C. Leave to rest for 5 minutes.
7.In a mixing bowl, toss finely shredded Chinese cabbage, bean sprouts, spring onion, and sesame oil into a coleslaw.
8.In another mixing bowl, whisk together light soy sauce, lemon juice, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create a vinaigrette.
9.Pour the vinaigrette over the coleslaw and toss to combine. Serve pork cutlets with coleslaw.
