Ingredients

1 cup channa dal ( washed & soaked for 2 hours )
1 can coconut milk
1 teaspoon ginger
1 cup cabbage , shredded
1/2 cup green bell pepper , diced
3 curry leaves
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon jalapeno , minced
1 large roma tomato , cut into large cubes
3 tablespoons oil
salt
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 teaspoon hing ( asafoetida powder )

Instructions

1.In a pressure cooker, cook the soaked chana dal for 4-5 whistles or until soft.
2.Heat oil in a pan and add curry leaves, ginger, and jalapeno. Saute for a minute.
3.Add chopped cabbage and green bell pepper, and saute for 2-3 minutes.
4.Add chopped tomatoes and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the tomatoes are soft.
5.Add turmeric, coriander powder, cumin powder, chili powder, garam masala, and hing. Mix well.
6.Add cooked chana dal along with salt and coconut milk. Mix well and let it cook for 5-7 minutes on low heat.
7.Add lemon juice and mix well. Serve hot with rice or naan.
