4 1/4 cups milk
3/4 cup pinole ( coarse ground maize flour )
1 pinch crushed piloncillo ( Mexican brown sugar cone ) , or more to taste

Instructions

1.In a medium-sized pot, bring 1 1/2 cups of water, cinnamon stick, clove, and star anise (if using) to a boil.

3.Remove the cinnamon stick, clove, and star anise from the pot and add the milk, pinole, and piloncillo.
4.Whisk continuously and bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
5.Reduce heat and simmer, stirring frequently, for 10-15 minutes, or until the mixture thickens to the desired consistency.
