Ingredients

2 cans crabmeat ( any kind of real crab meat )
1 lb imitation crabmeat , separated into small chunks
1 cup of regular mayonnaise
1/2 cup sugar
sushi rice
nori ( likely 2 packages )
sliced avocado ( optional )
julienned cucumber ( optional )
The California Roll is a traditional sushi roll that originated in the United States in the 1970s. This sushi roll consists of crab meat, avocado, and cucumber, all wrapped in a sheet of nori and sushi rice. Today we're sharing a recipe for the California Roll filling (kani) which is the creamy and sweet part of this sushi roll. Our California Roll filling recipe uses both real and imitation crab meat with a creamy mayonnaise dressing and sweetened with sugar. This recipe is perfect for sushi lovers who want to try making their own sushi at home!

Instructions

1.In a large bowl, add both kinds of crab meat and mix until well combined.
2.In a separate bowl, mix together the mayonnaise and sugar until the sugar is completely dissolved.
3.Add the mayonnaise mixture to the crab meat and mix well.
4.To prepare the sushi rolls, place a sheet of nori on top of a bamboo mat with the shiny side facing down.
5.Wet your hands with water and spread a handful of sushi rice evenly over the nori, leaving a 1-inch gap at the top.
6.Place a small amount of the California Roll filling on top of the rice, adding sliced avocado and julienned cucumber if desired.
7.Using the mat, roll the sushi tightly and seal the edge with a bit of water.
8.Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
9.Cut each sushi roll into 8 pieces using a sharp knife.

PROS

The California Roll filling (kani) is creamy, sweet and the perfect combination of real and imitation crab meat.

Using real crab meat is a delicious option but will make the dish more expensive.

This recipe will make your sushi night even more special

CONS

Bay Shrimp is used in many California Roll fillings but in this recipe, we’re using both real and imitation crab meat.

The price will vary depending on your location and if you choose to go with real crab meat.
