Ingredients

1 head cabbage
1 lb ground beef
1 lb ground pork
3/4 cup rice
1 chopped onion
2 eggs
salt and pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 package bacon
1 can sauerkraut ( I like Frank 's )
sauerkraut juice ( Frank 's also )
Cabbage rolls or sarma is a popular eastern European dish, traditionally enjoyed in countries such as Serbia, Croatia, and Romania. The dish typically consists of a filling made from a mixture of ground meat and rice, wrapped in blanched cabbage leaves, and baked in a savory tomato sauce. The dish can be adapted in several ways, adding different spices or meat options, and it can easily feed a crowd. In this recipe, we use a combination of beef and pork and sauerkraut for added flavor. The result is a delicious and hearty dish that is perfect for families, potlucks, or casual dinners with friends.

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
2.Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, add cabbage head and cook for 5 minutes.
3.Remove cabbage from pot and let cool.
4.In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, rice, chopped onion, eggs, salt and pepper, and garlic powder.
5.Using a spoon, mix together until thoroughly combined.
6.Carefully peel off the cabbage leaves, being careful not to tear them.
7.Using a knife, remove the tough stem from the cabbage leaves.
8.Place one scoop of the meat mixture in the center of each cabbage leaf.
9.Roll the cabbage around the meat mixture and place in a 9×13 baking dish.
10.Repeat until all the meat mixture is used up.
11.Pour 1 can sauerkraut and Frank's juice over the rolls.
12.Place bacon slices on top of the rolls, cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
