Ingredients

3 tablespoons cooking oil
2 dried red chile peppers , broken into pieces
1 tablespoon skinned split black lentils ( urad dal )
1 teaspoon split Bengal gram ( chana dal )
1 teaspoon mustard seed
1 sprig fresh curry leaves
1 pinch asafoetida powder
4 green chile peppers , minced
1 head cabbage , finely chopped
1/4 cup frozen peas ( optional )
salt to taste
1/4 cup grated coconut

Instructions

1.In a large pan, heat the cooking oil over medium heat.
2.Add the broken red chile peppers, skinned split black lentils, split Bengal gram, and mustard seed. Cook while stirring until the lentils turn golden brown.
3.Add the sprig of fresh curry leaves, and asafoetida powder. Cook for 10 seconds.
4.Add the minced green chile peppers and cook for another 30 seconds.
5.Add the finely chopped cabbage and salt. Mix well and cook for 5 minutes.
6.Add the frozen peas (optional) and grated coconut. Mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
7.Serve hot with rice or bread of your choice.
