Ingredients

500 g chuck steaks
1 tablespoon oil
1 onion , chopped
1 minced garlic clove
1 slice bacon , chopped
1 carrot , sliced
1/2 cup celery , chopped
1 cup dry red wine
1 tablespoon tomato paste
bouquet garni
salt
black pepper , freshly ground
440 g canned white beans

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 170°C.
2.Season the beef with salt and pepper.
3.In a casserole dish, heat oil over medium heat.
4.When the oil is hot, add the beef and brown on all sides.
5.Remove the beef from the casserole and set aside.
6.Add onion, garlic, bacon, carrot and celery (also known as Mirepoix) to the casserole.
7.Sauté over medium heat until softened for about 5 mins.
8.Add the beef back to the casserole and pour in the red wine , tomato paste, bouquet garni.
9.Bring to boil then cover and bake in the preheated oven for 2 hours. Or until beef is tender.
10.Add drained white beans and cook for additional 5 minutes.
11.Garnish with parsley or chives.
12.Serve warm.
