Ingredients

1/2 cup sugar

2 beaten egg yolks

1/2 teaspoon lemons , rind of or 1/2 teaspoon orange rind
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 lb of your favorite berries ( although cherries work well too . )

Instructions

1.In a large bowl, beat sugar and butter together until creamy.
2.Gradually add the beaten egg yolks and mix well.

5.In another bowl, beat the egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
6.Fold the beaten whites into the dough gently until no white streaks remain.

8.Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a baking pan.
9.Spread half the dough in the pan and smooth it out.
10.Add the berries evenly on top of the dough and spread the remaining dough on top of the berries.
11.Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown. Let it cool completely before slicing and serving.
