Ingredients

8 thick pork sausages ( I prefer cumberland or sage )
100 g plain flour ( all purpose )
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 egg , beaten
1/2 pint milk , and water mixed
1 onion , chopped anyway you like
1 fluid ounce sherry wine
1 small knob butter
gravy , granules

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 220 C / Gas mark 7.
2.Prick sausages with a fork, and arrange in a lightly greased 20x30cm baking dish.

4.Mix in the beaten egg and gradually whisk in the milk and water mixture, stirring until smooth.
5.Pour the batter over the sausages in the dish.
6.Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until the batter is golden brown and puffed up.
7.While the Toad in the Hole is cooking, place a small knob of butter in a frying pan and add the chopped onion.
8.Cook over a low heat until the onion is soft.
9.Add the sherry wine and continue to cook until most of the liquid has been absorbed.
10.Follow the instructions on the gravy granules packet to make the gravy, stirring in the sherry onion mixture.
11.Serve the Toad in the Hole with the sherry onion gravy on top.
