2 tart apples , cored and sliced thin , but not peeled ( i.e . Jonathans )

2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 - 1 1/2 lb bratwurst ( or German style smoked sausage links )
1 lb new potato
salt and pepper
1 cup beer ( not to drink , it 's for the recipe )

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

3.Add the 4 cups shredded red cabbage, 2 sliced tart apples, and 1/2 teaspoon caraway seed. Stir everything together and cook for 1-2 minutes.
4.Add 2 tablespoons of cider vinegar, 1 cup of beer, and the bratwurst or German-style smoked sausage links.
5.Bring to a simmer and cover the skillet.
6.Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and cook for 30-35 minutes.
7.Meanwhile, toss the new potatoes in 2 tablespoons of rendered bacon fat and season with salt and pepper.
8.When the cabbage and brats are done, remove them from the oven and let them rest. Place the potatoes on the same skillet and bake for another 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and golden.
