Ingredients

3 cups chickpeas , cooked
6 -7 large garlic cloves , peeled and sliced
4 -5 small hot peppers ( or 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes )
6 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon cumin seed , toasted and ground
2 lbs cod fish fillets , 1-inch thick
salt & freshly ground black pepper
fresh cilantro stems ( to garnish ) or parsley sprig ( to garnish )
lemon wedge ( to garnish )

Instructions

1.In a large saucepan, heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

3.Add the cooked chickpeas and the toasted and ground cumin seed, and stir to combine.
4.Add the cod fillets, making sure they are evenly distributed in the saucepan.
5.Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper, and then pour in enough water to reach about 3/4 inch up the sides of the saucepan.
6.Bring the liquid to a simmer and then reduce the heat to low.
7.Cover the saucepan and cook until the cod is cooked through and the chickpeas are tender and have soaked up some of the liquid, about 10-12 minutes.
8.To serve, plate the cod and chickpeas, drizzle with the remaining olive oil, and garnish with cilantro stems or parsley sprigs and a lemon wedge.
