Ingredients

500 g lean ground beef
1 onion , chopped finely
15 ml cooking oil
15 ml curry powder
15 ml vinegar
5 ml sugar
90 ml minced dried fruit or 90 ml chutney
5 ml salt
1 slice white bread
200 ml milk
2 eggs
50 g shortcrust pastry , sheet

Bobotie was brought to South Africa by Cape Malay slaves who were originally from Indonesia, and the dish has evolved to incorporate a variety of regional flavors and ingredients. Bobotie Pie is a modern take on this classic dish that combines the flavors and textures of bobotie with the convenience of pie. It's perfect for busy weeknights or for entertaining guests.

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 180°C.
2.In a pan, heat oil over medium heat and cook onions until soft.
3.Add ground beef and cook over medium-high heat until browned.
4.Add curry powder, vinegar, sugar, salt, and dried fruit/chutney, and mix well. Cook for a few minutes.
5.In a separate bowl, mix together milk and eggs, then soak the bread in the mixture. Add the soaked bread to the meat mixture and mix well.
6.Grease an oven-proof dish and place the sheet of pastry at the bottom. Pour in the meat mixture and smooth out the top.
7.Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is set.
