Ingredients

1 lb stew meat ( about 1 inch square )
2 -3 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 cups carrots , chopped
5 celery ribs , chopped
1 large rutabaga , peeled and chopped
2 -3 large red potatoes , peeled and chopped
1 can diced tomatoes ( do NOT drain )
4 -6 cups water
2 tablespoons beef bouillon granules ( mom swears by Wyler 's )
1 small head of cabbage , thinly sliced
2 cups frozen cut green beans
1 cup frozen peas
salt and pepper

Instructions

1.In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
2.Pat the stew meat dry with paper towels and sprinkle with flour, salt, and pepper.
3.Add the stew meat to the pot and brown on all sides.
4.Add the chopped carrots, celery, rutabaga, and red potatoes to the pot along with the can of diced tomatoes, water, and beef bouillon granules.
5.Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 2 hours.
6.After 2 hours, add the thinly sliced cabbage and continue to simmer for another 30 minutes.
7.Stir in the frozen cut green beans and frozen peas and cook for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
8.Season with salt and pepper to taste.
