Ingredients

2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast , one envelope is enough
1/3 cup water
1 1/2 - 2 1/2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons unsalted butter , softened
1 egg
3/4 cup water
3/4 cup coarsely chopped dried pears
1/3 cup pitted coarsely chopped prune
1/4 cup golden raisin
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon zest
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1 egg , beaten with 1 tbl milk

Instructions

1.In a small bowl, mix the active dry yeast with 1/3 cup of lukewarm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes until it is frothy.
2.In a large mixing bowl, mix 1 1/2 cups of flour, salt, and sugar. Add the soft butter, egg, and yeast mixture, and mix everything together.
3.Gradually add 3/4 cup of water and knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic. Add more flour if needed.
4.Once the dough is ready, fold in the chopped dried pears, pitted chopped prune, golden raisin, lemon juice, walnuts, sugar, lemon zest, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Knead well until all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
5.Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rest in a warm place for an hour.
6.Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and shape it into a round loaf. Place it in an oiled baking pan and let it rest for another 15 minutes.
7.Brush the top of the loaf with the beaten egg and milk mixture, and bake it in a preheated oven at 350°F for 40-45 minutes.
8.Once it is ready, take the bread out of the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.
9.Slice the bread and enjoy it warm or cold.
