Ingredients

1 lb top round steak , thin sliced
2 garlic cloves , chopped fine
1 small onion , chopped fine
1/2 bunch Italian parsley , chopped fine
1/4 lb italian ham , sliced very thin ( also called proscioutto )
1/2 lb mozzarella cheese , sliced very thin
1/2 cup parmesan cheese , grated
1/2 cup Italian breadcrumbs
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup red wine
6 ounces tomato paste
6 ounces water
28 ounces crushed tomatoes
28 ounces diced tomatoes
1/3 cup fresh basil , chopped
2 tablespoons sugar
salt and pepper
Braciole (pronounced bra-choh-lee) is a traditional Italian dish that combines thinly sliced beef with a variety of fillings rolled and simmered in a tomato sauce. Instructions

1.In a large bowl, mix together garlic, onion, parsley, parmesan cheese, Italian breadcrumbs, and 1 tablespoon olive oil.
2.Place round steak slices on a working surface, then lay a slice of ham, a slice of mozzarella cheese, and 2 tablespoons of breadcrumb mixture on each steak slice.
3.Roll up the steak slices like a jellyroll and secure the rolls with toothpicks.
4.Heat remaining olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and add the steak rolls, turning the rolls frequently to brown all sides.
5.In a separate deep pan, add red wine, tomato paste, water, crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, basil, sugar, salt and pepper, mixing well. Add the browned steak rolls to the pan and bring the mixture to a simmer.
6.Reduce heat to low and cover the pan, simmering for 2-2.5 hours until the meat is tender. Remove the toothpicks from the steak rolls and serve.
