Ingredients

1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 lbs stewing beef , cut into 2 inch cubes
4 medium onions , sliced
8 ounces mixed mushrooms , cut in half
2 tablespoons flour
1 1/4 cups stout beer ( like Guinness )
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon dark brown sugar
Beef in Stout Stew is a traditional Irish dish that has been enjoyed for generations. Tender beef cubes are simmered in a rich gravy made with hearty stout beer. The stout adds a malty, slightly bitter taste to the stew that complements the sweetness of caramelized onions and earthy mushrooms. Instructions

1.Heat butter and oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
2.Add the stewing beef cubes and brown on all sides. Around 10 minutes.
3.Remove beef cubes from the pot and add onions. Add a pinch of salt and cook until onions are caramelized. Around 15 minutes.
4.Add mushrooms and cook until they release their juices.
5.Add flour to the pot and stir to combine.
6.Add stout, bay leaf, dark brown sugar, and stir to combine.
7.Add the beef cubes back into the pot.
8.Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and let simmer for 2 hours or until the beef is tender.
9.Discard the bay leaf and serve hot.
