Moussaka is a traditional Greek dish that includes layers of ground meat, vegetables, and creamy-laced béchamel sauce. Our version of this dish features hearty beef and mushrooms, combined with a creamy sauce and topped with melted parmesan cheese. This dish is perfect for a cozy, comforting dinner at home, and can be served with a side salad or crusty bread for a complete meal.

Instructions

.Preheat the oven to 375°F.
.Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
.Add in the flour and finely chopped onion, whisking continuously for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
.Slowly add in the chicken broth, whisking continuously to prevent lumps from forming.
.Stir in the heavy cream and a pinch of salt and pepper. Set aside.
.In a large pan, heat 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add in the mushrooms, a pinch of salt and pepper, and minced parsley. Cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the mushrooms have released their moisture and then reabsorbed it.
.Pour in the red wine and cook until it has reduced by half.
.Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the pan and once melted, add the ground chuck. Cook until browned, stirring occasionally.
.Add in the chives and chili powder and cook until the meat is fully cooked through.
.Spread half of the meat mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
.Cover the meat mixture with half of the mushroom mixture.
.Pour half of the cream sauce over the top and sprinkle with half of the grated parmesan cheese.
.Repeat the layers: the remaining meat, the remaining mushrooms, the remaining cream sauce, and the remaining parmesan cheese.
.Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
.Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
