4 ounces butter or 4 ounces margarine
4 ounces caster sugar
2 eggs
6 ounces self-raising flour ( or plain flour with 1 tsp of baking powder )
1 pinch salt
1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 180 C ( 350°F ).
2.In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
3.Beat in the eggs, then add the flour and salt until batter is smooth.

5.Grease two shallow baking dishes with butter/margarine and evenly spread the batter into them.
6.Place the dishes onto a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 25 minutes. The sponge is done when golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
