Banh Mi Burgers are a modern fusion of Vietnamese and American cuisine. Inspired by the traditional Vietnamese sandwich, these burgers swap out the bread for a sesame seed bun and the sliced meat for a juicy ground pork patty. The burger is then topped with pickled vegetables and fresh herbs for a refreshing and crunchy contrast to the rich pork. This recipe is easy to make and can be customized to personal tastes by adjusting the amount of chili garlic sauce or using different types of vegetables for the pickling sauce.

Instructions

1.In a small bowl, combine the chopped cucumber, sliced green onion, chopped carrot, rice vinegar, mirin, and white sugar. Mix well and set aside as a pickling sauce.
2.In a large bowl, mix together the ground pork, tamari sauce, toasted sesame oil, mirin, grated fresh ginger, chili garlic sauce, and fish sauce. Form the mixture into 6 equal-sized patties.
3.Heat a grill or grill pan over medium heat. Grill the burgers for 5-7 minutes per side, or until fully cooked.
4.Toast the sesame seed buns until lightly browned.
5.Assemble the burgers: place a patty on each bun, top with the pickled vegetables, and sprinkle with fresh basil and mint if desired.
