Ingredients

Filling :
1 pound ground pork
2 shallots , minced
2 tablespoons fish sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
Dough :
4 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1 1/2 cups milk
3/4 cup white sugar
3 links Chinese sausages , sliced on the diagonal
4 hard-boiled eggs , peeled and quartered

Banh Bao, also known as steamed Bun or Vietnamese Meat Buns are a popular Vietnamese food that is often eaten as a snack or a small meal. It is a delicious combination of savory filling made of ground pork, Chinese sausages and boiled eggs enclosed in a soft and fluffy steamed bun usually served with sweet chili sauce. Banh Bao is mostly associated with North Vietnamese cuisine where it is considered as one of the most traditional foods. The dish has spread from Vietnam to other countries, becoming very popular in China, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Singapore, as well as within Vietnamese immigrant communities in other parts of the world.

Instructions

1.In a mixing bowl, combine ground pork, minced shallots, fish sauce, oyster sauce and soy sauce.
2.Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
3.In a separate bowl, mix self-rising flour, milk and white sugar until dough is formed.
4.Cover the dough and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
5.Divide the dough into 12-15 portions and roll each portion into a ball shape.
6.On a floured surface, flatten each ball and place one scoop of filling, one slice of Chinese sausage and a quarter of a boiled egg.
7.Gather the edges of the dough, pinch and twist to seal the bun.
8.Cut out wax paper squares and place each bun with wax paper on bottom in steamer.
9.Steam for 15-20 minutes until buns are fully cooked.
10.Serve and enjoy!
