1 lb rib eye steak , bone in

8 cups water , divided

Baked French Onion and Steak Soup is a favorite classic dish that is perfect for cold winter days or as a starter for dinner. It's a rich and hearty soup that is simply irresistible. Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
2.Heat 2 teaspoons of olive oil in a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Season the steak with salt and pepper, then add it to the skillet and sear until browned on both sides.
3.Add Worcestershire sauce and 4 cups of water. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 30 minutes.
4.Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
5.In the meantime, heat 3 tablespoons of butter and olive oil in a large pot over low heat. Add the onions and cook until caramelized, stirring occasionally for 20-30 minutes.
6.Add flour and beef base while still stirring the pot, and keep cooking for 5 more minutes.
7.Add the remaining 4 cups of water to the pot and mix around.
8.Add the sliced steak and any accumulated juices, then cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
9.Mix the garlic and 6 tablespoons of butter in a bowl and spread the mixture on the French bread slices.
10.Place the bread slices on top of the soup. Cover each slice with a slice of provolone cheese and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese.
11.Bake the soup until the cheese is melted and bubbly for 15-20 minutes.
