4 boneless pork chops ( about 1 1/2 lbs )
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion
1 inch fresh ginger
2 garlic cloves , minced
2 teaspoons five-spice powder
4 tablespoons ketjap manis
1/2 lemon , juice of
1 teaspoon salt , divided
canola oil , for frying
2 cups water
2 teaspoons vegetable oil

Babi Pangang is a popular dish in the Netherlands, consisting of Chinese-style grilled pork chops served with a sweet and tangy sauce. Instructions

1.Cut slits in the pork chops and rub with 1 tablespoon vegetable oil.
2.In a food processor, blitz the onion, ginger, garlic, five-spice powder, ketjap manis, lemon juice, and 1/2 teaspoon salt until a paste forms.
3.Rub the paste all over the pork chops and marinate for at least 1 hour.
4.Heat the canola oil in a pan and fry the pork chops on medium heat for 7-10 minutes on each side until cooked through.
5.In a separate saucepan, heat 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil and saute the onion and garlic until fragrant.
6.Add in the ginger, tomato paste, ketchup, sweet chili sauce, lemon juice, white vinegar, brown sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
7.Stir until well combined and bring to a boil.
8.Mix the cornstarch with a tablespoon of water and add it to the sauce mixture, stirring until thick and bubbly.
9.Serve the pork chops with the sauce and steamed vegetables or rice.
