Ingredients

1 lb stewing lamb ( lamb or beef but lamb is preferable , meat can be with bones or boneless )
2 teaspoons khaleeji mixed spice ( I use half Gulf Spices ( Ibzar ) & half Baharat Aka Middle East Mixed Spices - the Real Mix to be less spicy )
cooking oil ( I use olive )
1 large onion , chopped
2 teaspoons minced garlic
3 large tomatoes ( Original poster prefers Italian plum tomatoes I use a good canned version ) or 6 small tomatoes , diced ( Original poster prefers Italian plum tomatoes )
1 tablespoon tomato paste
water
2 dried limes pierced a few times with a skewers ( loomi Found in some Middle Eastern or Iranian shops )
salt , to taste
1 cup basmati rice ( soaked )
Ba7-7ari is a popular dish from Bahrain, which is a small island nation located in the Persian Gulf. The dish consists of tender stewing lamb braised in a spiced tomato sauce and served over aromatic basmati rice. Although the dish is of Middle Eastern origin, it has some influences from Indian cuisine due to the use of dried limes and khaleeji mixed spice. Ba7-7ari is a hearty and satisfying dish that is perfect for those cold winter nights when you want something flavorful and spicy. This dish is also great for large gatherings as it can easily be doubled or tripled to feed a crowd.

Instructions

1.Rinse the lamb with cold water and pat it dry.
2.Coat the meat with the khaleeji mixed spice and let it sit for at least an hour or overnight in the refrigerator.
3.Heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat in a pan or Dutch oven.
4.Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and cook until the onion is translucent.
5.Add the lamb and brown it on all sides.
6.Add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and enough water to cover the lamb.
7.Bring the mixture to a boil, then cover and reduce the heat to low.
8.Add the dried limes and simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours until the meat is tender.
9.Remove the limes and discard them.
10.Drain the rice and rinse it until the water runs clear.
11.In a separate pot, bring the rice, 1 3/4 cups of water, and a pinch of salt to a boil.
12.Cover the pot and simmer the rice over low heat for 18-20 minutes.
13.Let the rice stand for 5 minutes before fluffing it with a fork. Serve the lamb and tomato sauce over the rice.

Ba7-7ari is a flavorful and spicy dish that is perfect for those who enjoy Middle Eastern cuisine.

CONS
