Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
2.Spread the sliced apples on a baking sheet, sprinkle with sugar, and bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
3.In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs, milk, orange juice, lemon juice, orange and lemon zest, kirsch or apricot brandy, and salt.
4.Spread softened butter evenly over one side of each slice of French bread.
5.Layer half of the bread slices with the baked apples and the remaining slices of bread.
6.Dip each sandwich in the egg mixture, coating both sides evenly.
7.Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add the remaining butter and oil. Once melted, add the sandwiches and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
8.To make the orange ginger sauce, in a medium-sized saucepan, combine the grated ginger, half teaspoon of orange zest, orange juice, water, corn syrup, and sugar. Cook on medium-high for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the syrup is thick.
9.Serve the apple stuffed French toast hot with orange ginger sauce poured generously over the top.
