1 lb granny smith apple | |
1/4 cup granulated sugar | |
4 tablespoons water | |
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon | |
1/2 lemon , zest of , finely grated | |
1 lb puff pastry | |
3 tablespoons marmalade | |
1/4 cup milk ( for brushing ) |
1. | Preheat the oven to 375°F. |
2. | Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. |
3. | In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, ground cinnamon, and lemon zest. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. |
4. | Add the apples to the saucepan and toss to coat. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the apples are soft. |
5. | Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into a circle. |
6. | Spread the marmalade on top of the puff pastry, leaving a 1 inch border around the edge. |
7. | Spoon the apple mixture on top of the marmalade. |
8. | Brush the edge of the pastry with milk. |
9. | Bake for 25-30 minutes until the pastry is golden brown. |
