1 lb granny smith apple | |
1/4 cup granulated sugar | |
4 tablespoons water | |
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon | |
1/2 lemon , zest of , finely grated | |
1 lb puff pastry | |
3 tablespoons marmalade | |
1/4 cup milk ( for brushing ) |
1. | Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan-forced). |
2. | Peel and thinly slice the apples and place them in a saucepan with sugar, water, cinnamon, and lemon zest. Cook over low heat for about 15-20 minutes until the apples are soft and caramelized. |
3. | Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into a circle. |
4. | Place the pastry in a tart tin and prick the base all over with a fork. Spread marmalade over the pastry base. |
5. | Add the apple filling on top of the marmalade and brush the edges of the pastry with milk. |
6. | Bake for 25-30 minutes until the pastry is golden brown. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream. |
