Ingredients

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2.Melt the sugar in a heavy bottom saucepan over low heat to make a caramel.
3.Pour the caramel into an 8-inch baking dish, and tip and swirl to coat the bottom of the dish.
4.In a bowl, whisk together eggs, egg yolks, whole milk, evaporated milk, condensed milk, orange juice, and vanilla extract until combined.
5.Pour the mixture into the baking dish.
6.Place the dish in a large roasting pan and add hot water to the pan to come halfway up the sides of the dish.
7.Bake for 1 hour or until set around the edges but still a little jiggly in the center.
8.Remove from the oven and let cool completely.
9.In a small saucepan, combine ancho chiles, orange juice, and brown sugar over medium heat.
10.Once the sugar has dissolved and the mixture becomes syrupy, remove from heat.
11.Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh strainer, and serve over the flan.
